HOW IT WORKS

ABOUT US

With over 20 years of patent illustration experience, our unique patent illustration style–characterized by simplicity and boldness–has attracted the attention of several of the largest patent filers in the world.

Our US-based team is comprised of former engineers and registered patent lawyers with a love for design.

How is PATNHAUS different?

PATNHAUS is a patent illustration studio focused on giving our clients a unique experience. Led by a former engineer and licensed patent attorney, we understand the technology of your patent application and the nuances of the USPTO’s (and other patent offices’) drawing requirements. This expertise allows us to give you top quality drawings.

We’re also extremely friendly, responsive, and fun to work with!

Every project is different, so the cost will depend on the complexity and number of drawings.

The best way to keep the cost low is to send high-quality informal drawings. If you’re a repeat client, we will also reuse drawings we’ve previously prepared for you, if applicable.

Similar to our pricing, tell us when you need the first draft of your patent drawings. If we can do our high quality work in that time, we will have the first draft ready on time.

Otherwise, we request that you allow at least 5 business days for the first draft of your patent drawings.

We recommend you submit informal drawings in pdf format showing as much detail as possible. Providing all necessary details and element numbers (if possible) up front will help us, particularly if you are working with a lower budget and/or expedited timeline.

For most design patent requests, we require 7 views – top, bottom, front, back, left, right, and perspective/isometric.

Everyone on our team is located in the United States (Michigan). We mostly work with US-based law firms and companies. If you are located outside the United States, please consider any applicable export restrictions before sending us your patent drawings.

We prepare patent drawings for corporations and law firms. We are hired directly by law firms or in-house patent attorneys / patent agents who draft their own patent applications. Sometimes, corporations direct outside counsel to use our services.

We accept payment via credit card or direct deposit. For established clients, we will send an invoice for the patent drawings with the final version. For new clients, we may ask that you prepay for our services until we have an established business relationship.

Our standard practice is to provide a complete set of patent drawings as a single pdf file (8.5×11 or A4). We can provided other formats if needed.

We are very serious about quality and precision. We also believe good work takes time

We are more likely to accept proposals that give us the time and budget to prepare patent drawings to our high standards. You can see the types of budgets we typically accept here.

Finally, we do not miss deadlines. If we do not have capacity for you project given your timeline, we will let you know.

You will receive a set of drawings in pdf format. Each sheet will include crosshairs at the USPTO page margins, black-and-white line drawings, element numbers, and lead lines in accordance with the informal figures you upload.

After you receive the first draft, we will do some revisions (i.e., revisions that are due to our error, adding element numbers, etc.) under the agreed upon price.

If we have capacity, we will accept projects with a request for same-day completion.

If you need drawings completed the same day, please submit your request before 12pm ET.

Once we have an established relationship with you and/or your organization, we will gladly accept proposals via email.

We typically only work with law firms and in-house patent lawyers / patent agents. We do not prepare patent drawings for individual inventors seeking to file patent applications without the use of licensed US patent counsel.

Our patent illustrators are highly trained and skilled with respect to patent drawing rules as set forth in the MPEP and with various vector graphics tools.

Our studio uses a thorough internal review process to ensure that all projects are completed to our standards while meeting your expectations, particularly with respect to your budget and timing requirements.

All submissions are kept confidential. We will never use patent drawings prepared for one client for the benefit of another client, nor do we share informal or formal patent drawings with anyone outside our organization except for the client who requested the patent drawings.

We may reuse some stock images, however, as the basis for some patent drawings.

We will sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) if needed.

Because we are located in the United States, US-based companies and law firms do not need to worry about export controls when sending drawings to our studio.
